Who's your Farmer?

Two Farms. One Food Club.
Margaret is the braun behind vegetable, berry, and egg powerhouse Sunrise Gardens in Brightwood. She credits her husband with being the brains, and her sons as being the motivation. Diana (of Clueless Farmer fame) raises chickens and vegetables at Glean Acres in Leon, with the support of her good-humored husband.

Both farms run on God's good grace, some occasional extra muscles from family members and friends, a spirit of experimentation, and time-honored gardening wisdom compounded by modern regenerative agriculture principles. Neither farm is certified organic, but both farms use organic and regernerative agriculture methods to grow their crops, and raise poultry on fresh air, sunshine, vegetable scraps, grubs, and non-GMO feed.

Sunrise Gardens and Glean Acres got acquinted when their booths with vegetables, chicken products, and eggs were side by side at the Madison County Farmer's market. This gave Margaret and Diana plenty of opportunities to feed each others' imaginations about what was possible in the garden, the henhouse, and the community.

As both of their husbands are left-brain, logical types with Engineering degrees and day jobs, it was only logical that the two would form a kinship to take their vegetable and chicken whimsy to the next level. The idea of Madison Eats was born, with a vision to get good food to the good folks who wanted it, but might not find it convenient to get to the farmers' market on Saturday mornings.

Plus, we get to spend more time growing and less time at the markets, and have guaranteed customers for what we pick that day! That's a win win.

No matter how much we try to restrain our planting plans, and get a little too experimental, God never ceases to make sure we have more than enough to share with those in our community who don't have the means to get fresh food.  Part of our avowed purpose is to help get this food to the folks who could use it. We are blessed to be able to bring our gardens' first, second, and third fruits to area food banks, and families in our community. We welcome your helping hands to help us harvest and distribute to those among us who need it.
